That holiday-evening feeling does not need a plane ticket. Small changes that make an ordinary weeknight feel golden.
Think of the best evenings on holiday. The light goes soft and orange, someone is cooking something that smells amazing, there is nowhere to be, and everything feels a little bit golden. You can have more of that at home than you might think.
Bright overhead lights say "office". Lamps, fairy lights and candles say "evening". As the sun starts to set, switch the big light off and the small ones on. Warm, low light is the quickest way to change the mood of a room.
Open the window, put on a playlist you would play on holiday and cook something simple and colourful. Serve it on a board in the middle of the table so everyone picks. Bread, olives, cheese, fruit, whatever you have. It feels like an occasion without any fuss.
You do not need to be somewhere else to feel somewhere else.
A step, a balcony, a garden chair, a picnic blanket on the living room floor. Changing where you eat changes how it feels.
Look up today's sunset time and put a reminder in your phone ten minutes before. Go outside, or to the window, and watch it properly. It is free, it is different every day, and it is a lovely little marker that the work part of the day is over.
Finish the evening with a warm bath, a handmade soap and an early night. Holiday mode, fully activated.
Go gently, and keep glowing.
